The One Who Photographs Buildings

Jeroen Verrecht, Photographer

Watch video

Belgian photographer Jeroen Verrecht will present his work, which offers a nuanced exploration of both contemporary and historical architecture. His photography strongly captures space, materiality, and the effects of natural light. His portfolio spans a wide variety of projects, from modernist residential homes and public buildings to the adaptive reuse of industrial spaces, focusing the ongoing dialogue between past and present architectural elements.

Through his lens, Verrecht reveals the subtle interplay of geometry, texture, and illumination, emphasizing the raw beauty of materials like concrete, steel, and wood. His images document transformations of heritage sites into vibrant cultural spaces, preserving the integrity of original designs while celebrating their renewed functions.

With a neutral and journalistic approach, Verrecht’s photographs allow architecture itself to take center stage, inviting viewers to appreciate the thoughtful details and spatial narratives embedded in each structure. His work also embraces collaborative art-architecture projects, where sculptural interventions merge seamlessly with architectural form, further enriching the visual story of place and design.

Jeroen Verrecht, trained as a civil engineer specializing in architecture, works across both architectural and photographic disciplines. His photography functions as a deliberately neutral analytical tool for examining the development and use of constructed environments. Notable collaborators include AUC, Architecture Workroom Brussels, Étages Projects, Graux & Baeyens Architecten, Horst Arts & Music Festival, LIST, Maniera Gallery, NP2F, Piovenefabi, Rotor, Sam Chermayeff Office, Side Gallery Barcelona, Vitra Design Museum, and Wallpaper Magazine.

The Berlage Sessions is a thematic series exploring critical approaches to investigate architecture’s history and theory. Its spring 2025 edition, The Architect’s Friends, interrogates interdisciplinary dynamics between architects and designers. The series will dissect collaborative processes, emphasizing mutual creative exchange across design disciplines such as graphic design, photography, and spatial practice. Speakers will include artists, graphic designers, model makers, photographers, and others.
