Grafton Architects

Grafton Architects was established in 1978 by Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara. They directed the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale, entitled “Freespace,” celebrating "generosity and thoughtfulness, and a desire to engage.” Their built work includes the widely-acclaimed Universita Luigi Bocconi School of Economics building in Milan. Yvonne Farrell is a partner, with Shelley McNamara,ofthe Dublin-based firm, Grafton Architects, established in 1978. They are founding members of Group ‘91 Architects who won the International Competition for the Regeneration of Temple Bar, Dublin. The work of Grafton Architect includes educational buildings at Trinity College and University College in Dublin and the University of Limerick; the Solstice Arts Centre, Navan, County of Meath; Government Department offices in Dublin; and numerous Department of Education & Science schools. In 2008, Grafton Architects won the World Building of the Year Award for the Bocconi University Project in Milan and were one of the five Finalist for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2008. McNamara received a RIBA International Fellowship in 2010. She has worked as a studio lecturer at the School of Architecture in University College Dublin since 1976 and lectures and teaches internationally, including visiting professorships at the Architettura, Mendrisio and Harvard’s Graduate School of Design.
