Threshold of Powers, commissioned by the Rijksbouwmeester Atelier, 2024–2025.

Riccardo De Vecchi is a photographer and filmmaker with an architectural background based between the Netherlands and Italy. He studied architecture at IUAV (Venice, IT) Faculty of Architecture of the University of Liège (BE) and obtained a Master at the Technical University of Delft (NL) in 2017. After his studies, he focused on developing a multidisciplinary approach towards photography and filmmaking in the fields of architecture, design and documentary research. His work explores both the finished product and the process of its creation, approaching photography as a form of documentary storytelling. This method places emphasis on capturing not only the final result but also the nuanced journey of construction and transformation. Riccardo’s expertise often intersects with multidisciplinary research projects that investigate the relationship between architecture and its context, human presence, and spatial experience. He is regularly invited to collaborate on such projects alongside architects, artists, and institutions. In the past years, he started collaborating with the Collage Van Rjksbouwmeester & Rjksadviseur and the Dutch Government on various research programs for the planning and understanding of the development of cities and territories in the Netherlands, working under the lead of Floris Alkemade and the current Rjksbouwmeester Francesco Veenstra. His portfolio includes collaborations with OMA, Carlo Ratti, Studio Ossidiana, Camper, Studio RAP, JVST, O&O Baukunst, NXT Museum, NAi, Gamec Bergamo, Politecnico di Milano, Enzo Valerio, Studio Raito, Oblique Architecture, IUAV (Venice Institute for Architecture), between others. He has been a visiting teacher at the Rotterdam Academy van Bowkunst, the KABK in Den Haag, and the Venice Institute for Architecture (IUAV).

The Berlage Sessions is a thematic seven-part seminar series focusing on scholarly research and critical approaches to the history and theory of architecture and urban design. This upcoming spring 2025 series, entitled "The Architect's Friends," will examine the dynamics between architects and their key partners. Organized to showcase real-world projects, the series will include lectures by the engineer, the client, the critic, the artist, the historian, the builder, and the developer. Each session will highlight the collaboration between different design disciplines and discuss how architects rely on the expertise of various professionals to shape environments, societies, and economies.
